Reno Meditation Group :: Services

Meditation is the ability to take the mind away from every object of distraction and put it upon God alone.

— Paramahansa Yogananda

The Reno Meditation Group offers regular Meditation and Inspirational Reading Services that are open to the public.  All are welcome to attend.

Paramahansa Yogananda emphasized that the united devotion and concentration of many yoga devotees can powerfully increase the depth of each individual's meditation.

Meditation Service — 10:00 to 10:45 am
The meditation service includes periods of prayer, chanting and silent meditation. Meditation services provide opportunities to practice the methods of concentration and meditation taught in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons. All are welcome.

Reading Service — 11:00 am to 12:00 noon
The reading service includes short periods of prayer, chanting and silent meditation. Selections from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda are read during the service. The service concludes with the Worldwide Prayer Circle Service.

Inspirational Service — 7:00 to 8:00 pm
First and Third Thursday of the month
The inspirational service on Thursday includes periods of prayer, chanting and silent meditation. Selections from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda and other SRF publications are read by the service reader. The service concludes with the Worldwide Prayer Circle Service.

Kirtan — 7:00 to 8:30 pm
Second Thursday of the month
Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting. Most of the chants are performed in English, but are accompanied by beautiful Indian musical instruments. Participating in or even just hearing a Kirtan can be a beautiful and uplifting experience.

Two Hour Meditation — 7:00 to 9:00 pm
Fourth Thursday of the month
Our group meditations offer participants a chance to come together in silence to reinforce each other's efforts toward Self-Realization and practice the SRF techniques of concentration and meditation.  Each service begins with a prayer, followed by a short period of devotional chanting, which is repeated at the top of each hour. Entrance and exit to the chapel are permitted only during chanting and reading periods, during which time the door will be open, to preserve the silence essential to meditation. The service concludes with the Worldwide Prayer Circle Service.

At the close of the Sunday morning services and Thursday evening services we pray for the physical, mental, and spiritual healing of others, and for world brotherhood and peace. Together, the group practices the spiritual healing technique taught by Paramahansa Yogananda, which is explained in the free booklet Worldwide Prayer Circle.

These special services are held throughout the year to honor either the birth or Mahasamadhi (final conscious exit from the physical body) of one of the Self-Realization Fellowship line of Gurus. They are open to all who understand the significance of the guru-disciple relationship and can participate with sincerity and reverence. Please bring a flower, symbolizing devotion for the Master being honored, and a monetary donation in an envelope, as an expression of gratitude and loyalty to the work of Self-Realization Fellowship. Please refer to the Master Calendar for dates, and to our Upcoming Events for more information.

The soul is like a wave on the sea-bosom of Spirit.  The soul wave is one with the Sea, but the wave is not the Sea.
